PARQUE DAS BALEIAS (BALEIA AZUL) FIELD - OFFSHORE IN ESPÍRITO SANTO STATE COAST | BRAZIL

Project Background

KKI’s first orders direct from the Brazilian region were for Aker Solutions, to supply valves for the sulphate removal units onboard Petrobras’s FPSO vessels, P-58 and P-62.

The removal units will treat and de-sulphate seawater for injection into the reservoir to maintain pressure, and control scaling and souring effects in the reservoir.

P-58 will operate on the Parque das Baleias (Baleia Azul) field located offshore in Espírito Santo state coast. P-62 will operate in module 4 of the Roncador field located in the Campos Basin offshore in Rio de Janeiro state coast. The first oil for both FPSOs is scheduled for 2014.

P-58 Order

Oil production at the field will come from 19 satellite wells connected individually to P-58. De-sulphated water is required to be injected into 10 of the satellite wells; hence the need for the process, which will have a capacity of 60,480 m3/day.

Following a competitive tender to Aker Solutions, KKI received an order to supply 12 globe and anti-cavitation butterfly valves for P-58. The valves ranged in size from 4” to 12” and all were ANSI 300 rated. The butterfly valves are also 6 shutoff.

P-58 Order

Although the principle of using local suppliers for the project was central to Aker Solutions’ procurement policy, the order was placed with KKI primarily because local manufacturers have difficulty in successfully and economically supplying valves manufactured from super duplex material. The valves were manufactured at KKI’s factory in Brighouse, Yorkshire, in the UK.
