Our new high pressure subsea choke valve works at pressures of up to 15,000 PSI

5th February 2018

Our new high-pressure subsea choke valve is qualified to API 6A / 17D and works at pressures of up to 15,000 PSI. It is a worthy addition to our range of subsea valves and leaves us very well-placed to meet the needs of similar high-pressure, high-temperature subsea applications.

Our newly developed 15,000 psi subsea choke valve utilises a trim capable of handling extremely high pressure drops, safely avoiding any potential damage and to prevent the Joule-Thomson effect. To achieve this we utilised our eight-stage, solid tungsten carbide multispline trim. This also included an internal cleaning function to clear any upstream particles. The trim and all its features are built upon existing technology that is proven to work effectively in subsea applications.

Understandably, given the unique demands of the application, the choke valve went through rigorous qualification testing at our dedicated valve testing facility including:

  • API 6A PR2 Testing with pressure/temperature cycles in accordance with API 6A / ISO 10423 Annex F (20th edition).
  • Hyperbaric testing in accordance with API 17D Section 5 & 7 (2nd edition).
  • Flow testing to prove design Cv and the flow characteristic of the choke trim.

We’ve built on our knowledge and experience of subsea applications in recent years with some very significant projects and this is another milestone in our development for subsea products.

We now have a high pressure, API 6A / 17D qualified subsea choke valve and we’ve risen to the challenge of developing it to meet the needs of some very demanding conditions. This gives us a great opportunity to provide solutions to other customers with similar HPHT applications along with the confidence of a fully qualified product.
